Matt Connors

Matt Connors plays freely with the history of abstraction and minimalism while maintaining a process that is entirely contemporary. Often using raw canvas, Matt takes rubbings from his studio floor, uses wet paint from one canvas to mark another, and, at times, shares drips from his paintbrush between canvases. While each painting is autonomous, there is an inherent and lively dialogue in his body of work. In addition to his paintings, Matt also works in installation and artist books.

Matt Connors (b. 1973) has been the subject of exhibitions at MOMA PS1, Cherry and Martin, Los Angeles, Markus Luttgen, Cologne, Herald St., London, among others and forthcoming at Xavier Hufkens, Brussels. He is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, the Dallas Museum of Art  and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis.

Matt is represented by Cherry and Martin in Los Angeles and CANADA in New York.
